The Church Needs to Scrub Terds

“With ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance, all things are attainable.” -Thomas Foxwell Buxton

Most of my friends are dreamers. We have these big plans and far-reaching aspirations but a lot of the time we hold back, whether out of fear of failure or total and utter confusion. I think I have a healthy mix of both. Or unhealthy, whichever you prefer.

We are musicians, writers, and poets. We dream often, think big, and aim high in this culture that tells us we must “make something of ourselves” or else risk being a failure to society, our families, and ultimately God.

Well I call bullshit on this and say success can reach only as far as you know God.

This means that most “successful” people in the world are not successful at all. And any common sense of discernment should tell you this! This is what I have beep harping on in my recent posts about the church and her materialism. She is a beautiful, extravagant, and hollow prostitute. She glories in her grandeur and ability to seduce the hearts of weaker men, but she is deceptive and and her eyes are focused inward. Does this make sense? She sits unscathed and comfortable, and I think this is stupid. In other words, the church I see around me is more like Oprah than it is the Food Lion buggy dude who scrubs terds off of stall doors.

And I am of the opinion that the church should be scrubbing terds off the stall doors.

I don’t even know what I am saying…but it sounded funny. Really, though, the point is just that we should figure out what true success is, what our priorities should be, and adjust accordingly. If someone wants to throw out some verses, I would be OK with that.

Maybe ordinary people, who have ordinary talents, should persevere in the things God would have us to persevere in. And then we could watch some transformation take place in our hearts and in the hearts of our lost friends and family.

Bladow!

That’s all.
