The Journey

Nomsa has a huge vision: holistic sustainable life change that will end involuntary and perpetual homelessness in America.
If that is to happen, there must be awareness.
We must seek to better understand this problem ourselves, understanding and embracing the brokenness behind homelessness, and then invite others to do the same.
We must tell the stories. Figures and statistics do not tell stories. Behind every statistic, every number is a name, a face, and a story. We want to hear and know those stories, and we especially want to share them.
With these stories, we hope to awaken America to the reality of this problem.
With this desire heavy on our hearts, we are planning a project for 2009:
The Journey.
A small team - consisting of Nomsa staff as well as a few talented, creative minds and friends with hearts heavy for this cause - will begin in Orlando and make our way across America, living this homelessness we’ve only witnessed up to now.
The team will stay in homeless shelters, camps, on the streets, or under bridges, sleeping where our homeless friends would be able to rest their heads, eating at public food sharings for the homeless as well.
The purpose of The Journey is multi-faceted:
•The team’s experience: living it to better understand the reality
•Learning what projects and programs are in place to end homelessness: what works? what doesn’t?
•Telling the stories: capturing and relaying the reality through words, film, and photographs
This team will be very intentional about documenting as much as possible through 15+ cities, in 12+ states over a 3 month period.
At this time, we are fundraising to prepare; video equipment is needed, as well as the van to travel in and its’ maintenance, gas money, etc.
